PROBLEM SOLVING: FLUID CONTAMINATION.
The problem
In a steel foundry, the hydraulic power supply was made via water/glicol fluids. The customer claimed system malfunctions and high filter elements replacement rates.
The cause
We made some ANALYSIS, that show a very clean fluid from particle side, but highly contaminated by crystals. The problem was not inside the plant but on the COOLING system. Fluid was cooled with fluid/water cooling exchanger, this cooler was supplied with sea water. A breakage inside the cooler, gave birth to a fluid contamination by sea water. SALTS reacted with water/glycol fluid forming precipitates similar to salts (see pictures) clogging the system.
The solution
Once repaired the cooler, no other claims was made by the customer.
